Make A Difference

Simon Richards
Vice President

The generosity of members has always been an important factor in the Society’s finances and I hope you will wish to join the many who value their relationship with the Royal by supporting the Society.

There are several ways you can help Make A Difference and these are shown below. The Royal Philatelic Society London is a UK registered charity (no. 286840), thus UK tax payers may make donations under the Gift Aid scheme.

Annual Fund – for discrete projects

Our Annual Fund funds work that we would not otherwise be able to perform.

  • With your generosity we fund an apprentice post in the Collections team to enable the team to highlight artefacts from our Museum and Collections.
  • The Annual Fund assists with the Crawford Literature Festival week, a major new initiative.
  • The fund also helps to ensure that our binding of books and periodicals is maintained.
  • It provides funding to digitise our archives, thereby improving access.
  • It assists with financing new equipment needed for our Expertising service.

Capital Fund – to maintain and improve our facilities

The refurbishment of Abchurch Lane was largely financed by Tomorrow’s Royal which successfully raised its target of £2,500,000 but it also used up our investments of £1,000,000. The Society’s Council is seeking to rebuild the Society’s investments by seeking donations to be placed in a restricted endowment fund that can only be used for capital purposes whilst the income will assist the running of the Society and help to ensure that membership remains affordable for future generations of philatelists.

A Gift in your Will & Legacies

In your will, naming the Royal Philatelic Society London as a financial beneficiary, and leaving a legacy to the Society, will entitle you to membership of the Sir Daniel Cooper Legacy circle that meets annually for discussion and refreshment.

In addition to making donations of money, support may be made by buying our publications, or the Society’s merchandise, or using the expertising capabilities of the Expert Committee.

You can make donations to our Annual Fund in several different ways:
